I thought it’d be helpful to start a thread where we can share our favorite tools, tips, and resources for navigating the world as traveling and worldschooling families. Here are a few of my go-to’s:
Researching Locations:
I’m a huge fan of NomadList, recently rebranded as Nomads.com. It’s packed with data on everything from safety to internet speed, and it’s a great starting point for exploring new destinations.
Cost of Living Comparisons:
Numbeo is a go-to for cost-of-living comparisons, and I believe Nomadlist also gets their data from Numbeo. It breaks down the cost of living in cities around the world and even lets you compare two destinations side by side.
Finding Worldschooling Hubs:
Worldschooly is the most comprehensive directory out there, offering up-to-date information, reviews and a filtered search.
Education Resources:
Outschool offers live online classes for kids of all ages, and Khan Academy is decent for free lessons in a variety of subjects.
Flight Deals:
I usually compare flights on Skyscanner and Google Flights.
Another hack is to use Kayak Explore to reverse engineer the route. For example, if you need to get to Marrakech from Bangkok, use Explore to see which cities are cheapest to fly to from Marrakech. Then look into options from Bangkok to that city. i.e. BKK>RAK direct costs $1,189, but using Explore I see that Budapest to RAK is only $165 and BKK to Budapest is only $483. Booking separately saves you 55% or $541 per ticket!
